• The Lightning Proximity Alert allows you to set 3 levels of alerting.
    • Red is always the “highest level”, in the case of lightning, the inner most ring.
    • Orange is the middle level.
    • Yellow is the farthest out.
    • Defaults for each level is set by the user.
  • As the defined threshold (status) levels are breached a status is applied to that location. Notifications can also be sent as this status level is applied.
  • If a strike is detected in a higher level ring. The status is changed to the higher level.
  • To downgrade or clear there must be 30 minutes with no strikes in that range.
  • An ALL Clear is only issued when there has been no strikes in any defined rings.

Below is an example> For these scenarios assume the following:

  • A ring is 5 miles labeled as “Red
  • B is 10 miles labeled as “Orange
  • C is 20 miles labeled as “Yellow
  • Embargo period is 30min for all thresholds.

Example

  • 3:00 pm – Strike 7 miles NW of Asset
    • Orange Status active and notification sent
  • 3:10 pm – Strike 4.5 miles NNW of Asset
    • Red Status is active and notification sent
  • 3:10 – 3:30 pm – Strikes continue in Red zone
    • No change, status is still Red
  • 4:00 pm – No strikes since 3:30 pm, strike at 3:45 pm in Orange zone
    • Downgrade to Orange and notification is sent
  • 4:00 – 4:15 pm – Strikes continue in Orange zone
    • No change, status is still Orange
  • 4:45 pm – No strikes since 4:15 pm, strike at 4:30 pm in Yellow zone
    • Downgrade to Yellow and notification is sent
  • 5:00 pm – No strikes since 4:30
    • All Clear is issued.
